So What is the Craft Fair?
Catherine’s Craft Fair is an event started in 2000 that is now in its twelfth year. When Catherine MacLean of Hamilton was four and a half she was diagnosed with a very rare disease known as Aplastic Anemia. This bone marrow failure syndrome leaves the body unable to produce any necessary blood cells, leaving the patient at risk for severe infections, disease, and life-threatening bleeding. Thankfully, Catherine was lucky enough to receive a bone marrow transfusion from her younger brother and she is now a ten year survivor. During her long hours in the hospital and at home recuperating, Catherine spent the time making crafts and small items for her friends and family. Always the humanitarian, Catherine decided that she would help those less lucky and fortunate than her so at age eight she began the Craft Fair. In its first year, the Craft Fair made a small amount of $60 and donated it all plus some food supplies to the local food pantry. In the ten years since, the Craft Fair has grown substantially and has gone on to donate over $15,000 dollars to AAMDSIF which helps patients worldwide who are suffering from bone marrow failure. The Foundation also works to further research into the little-known diseases.
Thanks to everyone who made last year's fair so successful! We are proud to announced that we made over $2,000!!
